Controlling pests and insects can be difficult, but preparing your property before pests strike can make the difference. Here’s how to get rid of pests in your home.
Identify the pests
Properly identify the type of pests you are dealing with whether they are mosquitoes, houseflies, ants, cockroaches, bees, wasps etc. Next, check for signs of pests’ activity by setting sticky traps to help you identify where the bugs are and the nature of infestation.
Prepare pests defense
To keep pests from raiding your home, spray or apply liquid or powder insecticide on a regular basis. Take care precautions and don’t spray in areas frequented by humans or pets.
If you have to control ants, consider destroying the anthill using methods such as drowning it, poisoning it, or simply flattening it – just make sure you dig deep till you find the queen. For termites, it is best to hire an extermination professional to help you get rid of the entire colony. That way, you’ll increase your chance of success.
Stingers such as bees and wasps can be controlled through the use of foaming spray before removing them. Spray in the morning or in the evening when the colder temperatures make the stinger more sluggish.
The best way to prevent bugs from coming into your home is to have a quarterly pest prevention program. It involves carrying out various activities to eradicate pest problems in your home. These include replacing pet-friendly plants with the ones that don’t attract them or growing such plants far enough away from the buildings. Also, keep the property clean and dispose of waste timely to avoid piles of dirt and dust from accumulating and attracting pests.
Remove any standing puddles or stagnant water and fix leaks as soon as they occur. If possible, install weather-stripping and screens to block pests from making their ways inside. Lastly, ensure all the cracks, crevices, gaps and holes are sealed with mildew resistant caulking to block insects from hiding inside.
