Although Summer is in full swing and you may be planning another summer vacation, take some time to keep your home in order with these simple summer home maintenance tips.
Home cooling system
Summertime is synonymous with high temperatures so it is essential to inspect your cooling systems for optimal functioning. Check the A/C unit inside and out. Clean debris and make repairs if necessary. It is also sensible to hire a professional to assist with the inspection and repairs.
Air filters
The next system to want inspect is the air filters for dust and debris build-up. Repair your air filters to increase their efficiency. If possible, replace old filters with new. In fact, the filter needs to be replaced every one to three months to enhance its efficiency. New filters will not only save you costs, they will help increase the air quality inside your home.
Ceiling
Clean and dust the ceiling fans to improve their functionality. In addition, reverse the ceiling fans so that they are rotating anticlockwise. That counterclockwise movement allows the fan to push fresh air down, which helps cool the room more efficiently during summer.
Leaks and water damage
To locate water leaks, start with checking the toilets in each bathroom for running or leaking toilets. Also, check your basement, sprouts, gutters and the attic for potential water leaks. Remove the lid from the tank of the toilet. If the toilet has a leak, it could be caused by corrosion. Hire a licensed plumber to arrange repairs or replace the toilet flapper or piping system. Besides the water systems, take time to clean walkways, drive ways and the deck as well.
BBQ grills
Make sure your grills are clean before you start the party. Clean charcoal grills using not water and soap. Thoroughly scrub the surface and rinse with warm water. Give the grill room to dry before using. For gas grills, brush the surface while the lid is closed and the grill is cold.
